Coffee Night

7pm, December 5, 2011

Brew Ha-Ha

711 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70806

Baton Rouge Open and Poly has a standing coffee date on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at Brew Ha-Ha. This month we gather on December 5, the 43rd birthday of comedian and activist Margaret Cho. Cho has been very open about her open marriage, so it’s only fitting that we celebrate her birthday.

BROP is a social group for those in and around Baton Rouge and south Louisiana who are interested or involved in all forms of non-monogamy, including polyamory, polyfidelity, open relationships, swinging, play partners, friends with benefits and whatever other configurations you can come up with. Our hope is that that we can get to know one another and build the resources we need to have a healthy community.

All are welcome, regardless of age, gender, race, orientation, sexuality or involvement.

If you’re a member of FetLife, you can view the event page and RSVP there. No RSVP needed to attend, however. Just show up and look for our mascot, Polywog, the little frog below, on one of the tables.

BROP at the Cove

8pm, November 18, 2011

The Cove

2561 Citiplace Court, Baton Rouge, LA

On November 18, 1307 William Tell took aim at and shot an apple sitting on his son’s head. Commemorating this event, BROP will gather at the Cove and perhaps imbibe some cider or even some apple jack. After a night at the Cove, I don’t know how many of us would have the kind of control Tell displayed.

On the third Friday of the month we visit the Cove in Citiplace next door to Albasha. The Cove has an outstanding selection of liquor and beer and they know how to whip up a mean cocktail. The lobby and cocktail lounge near the entrance are smoke free, while the back room allows smoking and has televisions and pool tables. We’ll be meeting up in the cocktail lounge. Please keep in mind that you must buy a drink.

Baton Rouge Open and Poly has a standing coffee date on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at Brew Ha-Ha. This month we gather on November 7, the 98th birthday of French Absurdist philosopher and novelist, Albert Camus. If “the absurd is the essential concept and the first truth,” then from what truths do our loves proceed?

Brew Ha-Ha

711 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70806

Baton Rouge Open and Poly has a standing coffee date on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at Brew Ha-Ha. This month we gather on October 3, 54 years after the U.S. government decided that Allen Ginsberg’s Howl and Other Poems was not obscene. Let us lift a glass to the best minds of our generation, and ponder whether we’re to be found obscene.

(We might manage to talk Gabe into sharing his Cage-inspired poem 1’09” if we ask nicely).

BROP Rolls into the Cove

8pm, August 19, 2011

The Cove

2561 Citiplace Court, Baton Rouge, LA

It’s a derby weekend! August 19th marks the anniversary of the first All-American Soap Box Derby in Dayton, Ohio in 1934. We’ll celebrate gravity-powered cars and badass girls in fishnets by gathering at the Cove Friday night for drinks and pre-game discussion of Saturday’s upcoming Red Stick Roller Derby bouts: Diables Rouges against the Burn City Rollers, and the Capital Defenders versus the Bayou Outlaw Rollergirls. Anyone wearing a derby hat to the Cove gets extra awesomeness points!

On the third Friday of the next few months we’ll visit the Cove in Citiplace next door to Albasha. The Cove has an outstanding selection of liquor and beer and they know how to whip up a mean cocktail. On July 15, to celebrate the 81st birthday of the great French post-structuralist Jacques Derrida, we’ll once again gather at the Cove to deconstruct romantic relationships.
